Nature & Scope:
Aquatics Staff are responsible for instruction in pools and classrooms, including individual assessment and assist with supervision of health and physical education aquatic classes as required. Rate of pay: Elementary Instructor/Lifeguard: $19.27 per hour, rate changes to $25.69 after completing 30 days Secondary Instructor/Lifeguard: $18.26 per hour, rate changes to $24.34 after completing 30 days Schedule: up to 7 hours per day between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm You must be available a minimum of 3 days per week
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lifeguarding during instructional programs in pools
- Develop the aquatics program (Elementary age students) or assist the teacher with the development of the program (Secondary age students)
- Perform maintenance and safety checks of the pool area
- Perform administrative duties, including reporting and assessment of Elementary students
- Adapt and modify programs as needed and set realistic goals (for students with special needs) and adapt and modify regular equipment or ability to use specialized equipment to facilitate instruction and student learning
- Assist students in and out of the water (may require lifting), and may assist with dressing and undressing students (Special Education programs only)
Required Skills & Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Secondary school diploma plus required Aquatic Certification (see below)
- Minimum three months of related experience instructing Secondary or Elementary school-aged children, or a minimum of one year of related experience instructing children with special needs
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
- Must hold current Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate
- National Lifeguard Services Lifeguard Certificate; and Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR-C from Lifesaving Society, St. John’s Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol
